To participate in the program during 2026 submit a request through the Ask Edgewater platform www.EdgewaterCO.gov/AskEdgewater and select the Parks > Trees and Shrubs topic.

In your ticket, please list:

1. The number of affected trees.

2. Any details that they can provide about specific concerns or conditions.

3. Note that they would like the City arborist to come for an inspection.

Your submitted ticket will be assigned to the Parks and Recreation Director who will schedule the City Arborist for a site visit.

The City Arborist will perform a site visit and advise the owner on best practices as well as any eligibility for the 2026 Healthy Tree Canopy Program.

If eligible, the Arborist will provide the resident with a rebate of 25-75% off up to $500(maximum) of any eligible service. There is a limit of one coupon per property. This removal or treatment must be provided by the City’s licensed tree contractor. Rebates amounts will be determined using 2026 HUD income limits.  Properties not eligible for a rebate are still eligible for services using the City's contractor. 

To receive the rebate, residents must provide annual household income to confirm eligibility. The owner must also agree to use the City's licensed tree contractor. 

Once an owner accepts the quote from the City's tree contractor, their rebate will be deducted from the final bill. The property owner will be responsible for the remaining invoice cost. 

The City's licensed tree contractor will submit an invoice to the City of Edgewater to collect the balance from the rebate. 

Emerald Ash Borer Treatment

An Ash Tree must meet the following conditions and criteria to be deemed suitable for treatment by the Arborist:  

• The tree must be larger than 9” in diameter when measured and more than 4.5 feet above ground.

• The tree must be in healthy condition and structurally sound.

• The tree must not interfere with utilities or higher quality species.

• Tree owners must agree to use the City partner ATLL for the application services. The application may not be performed by the homeowner.

• Tree owners must agree to accept the application method approved by CSU and the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

• The tree owner must agree to the current industry recommendation of one application every three years to avoid over treatment.

• Treatments must be made between early-May and mid-August. This is subject to change and weather dependent.

Infested Tree Removal

Tree species that have been attacked with an untreatable insect or disease with no hope of recovery may be eligible for assistance with removal program. Examples are Mountain Pine Beetle and Tussock Moth.

Preventative Tree Removal

Dead/dying trees can be hazardous, and the City of Edgewater encourages residents to proactively remove affected trees and limbs.

Certain species of trees have been known to quickly decline and die, making them a hazard. Once a tree reaches a threshold of 50% percent dead, the tree will never recover and should be scheduled for removal. Large limbs (greater than six inches) that are dead and creating a hazard to surrounding areas may also be eligible for the program. 

Planting

Residents can plant a tree themselves, or have one planted by the City's contractor.  The planting location must be pre-approved by the City Arborist and the tree is required to be on the Front Range Tree Recommendation list.

*For trees planted by a resident, the City Arborist will confirm the planting and the resident must provide receipt of purchase to the City to be eligible for a rebate. 

The purpose of this project was to update and expand an original list creating a Front Range Tree list for use by Green Industry professionals based on decades of actual experience growing and caring for tree in our area. The list is intended to assist those involved in the buying, growing, selling, selection, siting and specification of trees, with the ultimate goal of a healthy, diverse and geographically appropriate landscape and urban forest.
